Treat Yourself to a NEW you!!!

February 2015 Challenge Invite

When I first decided to start a fitness program I wasn’t sure I would be able to stick with it. My online accountability group was perfect motivation. I checked in daily and there was always a little encouragement and challenge to do. The challenges were pretty simple (take a post-workout shelfie, take a collage of what you ate today, tell us what inspires you) things like that. But just knowing I needed to check in with my coach everyday gave me the motivation to make sure I was doing what I was supposed to be doing. Eating clean, Working out, drinking my Shakeology, and drinking my water!
In February I’m going to be starting my own online Challenge group, and hopefully I gave give the support and motivation that my coach gave to me to help people with their fitness journey.
So grab a friend, spouse, significant other, or just do this for yourself!!!

21 Day Fix-What is it? My Thoughts…..

Wow time really got away from me this Holiday Season. I was prepared to write this post weeks ago, and somehow never got around to it. =( Well here I am and hopefully now I will be able to be more consistent with my postings…

So chapter 2 of my fitness journey is complete. YAY!! I did the 21 Day Fix Program and loved it so I thought I would share with all of you what it is and my overall thoughts on the program.

What is 21 Day Fix???21 Day Fix

21 Day Fix is a 21 day at home exercise program that will give you incredible results. 21 days with 7- 30 minute workouts ( plus one bonus PLYO workout if you order from a coach) and a 10 minute Ab workout. An easy meal plan that is all about portion control! You get all these lovely little coloured containers that all represent a food group. If the food fits in the container you can eat it. No counting calories just fill up the containers and enjoy. =)

Let me break it down for you. As I said there are 7 workouts and a 10-minute AB workout. There is also a modifier in every workout so if you are hurt, or just tired and not feeling like you can go all out for the day, you can always follow them. No excuses to NOT get your workout in.

1. Total Body Cardio Fix: (Complete body workout to get that heart rate up)
2. Upper Fix: (Chest, back, shoulders, arms and abs)
3. Lower Fix: (glutes, quads, hamstrings)
4. Pilates Fix: (strengthens your core, nice break from all the cardio)
5. Cardio Fix: (jumping jacks, burpees, mountain climbers.. This is the hardest workout of the 7 in my opinion)
6. Dirty 30 ( I think this one is my favourite)
7.Yoga Fix ( Which really isn’t a workout, just stretching all the muscles so you can abuse them all over again the next day lol.)
8. 10 Minute Ab Fix: This is an extra one you can throw in on top of another workout, or on its own whatever you choose. It’s only 10 minutes but you really work those abs!!

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Light and Heavy dumbbells OR a resistance band. Also a Yoga mat of some kind might be nice for some of the workouts, but the mat is not necessary.

So when you get 21 Day Fix Challenge Pack the first thing you will do is figure out your calorie level (they have an easy formula to follow) then you will know how many of each coloured container you are recommended.

For instance I was in the 1,200-1,499 calories bracket and in a 24-hour period I was recommended to have:

3 green: ( Vegetables)
2 Purple: (Fruit)
4 Red: (Protein)
2 Yellow (Carbs)
1 Blue: (Healthy Fats-raw nuts, chesses, hummus etc.)
1 Orange: ( salad dressings, raw seeds, olives etc.)
2 teaspoons: (nut butters, seed butters, cooking oils)

Free Foods: water, vinegars, mustard, spices, hot sauce, herbs, flavour extracts etc.)

Also throughout the week you can do replacement containers. If you are really craving that glass of wine, fruit juice, milk, or REALLY need a chocolate fix there are some options. Within the meal plan booklet there are some recipes for seasonings, Shakeology, treats, and some ideas for each coloured container.

My Final Thoughts:

I really enjoyed the variety of exercises throughout this program. You got a little bit of everything. I felt like the meal plan was pretty simple to follow, although I will be honest having only two yellow containers(carbs) a day was a little tough, but I found ways to make it work. You definitely need to plan out your meals/snacks with this program to be successful. My results were a little messed up with Christmas Holidays in there and me indulging in some sweets, but I still managed to lose 3 lbs and gained some  definition in my  abs ( I don’t think they have ever been this close to being seen) Last week I put on a bathing suit for the first time since my pregnancy and I have NEVER felt more confident. I felt good about the way I looked and what I have accomplished and I think it showed.

So there you have it a  little overview of my thoughts on this program. Although I am taking a little break from it and trying something new it is definitely something I will come back to in the future.

If you have any questions about this program or any of the other programs I have done feel free to email me at, if you want to see exactly what comes with your 21 Day Fix Challenge pack click HERE. BONUS the 21 Day Fix is on sale this month and in my opinion definitely worth the money. =)

Next up for me? Focus T25, I’m not going to lie this is my hardest program yet. more to come…

Recipe: Spinach Salad with Apple Cider Dressing

Just a quick post to share my salad that I had for lunch. Pretty simple but delicious. I love having salad but I like variety. I’m always looking for new ingredients to try and dressings to top it off with.

Look delicious? It was!! and REALLY simple:

Spinach, Cranberries, Raisins, sliced almonds, and apples (If you wanted to add some protein chicken would probably be really good)

Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), Apple Cider Vinegar, Maple Syrup.

For the dressing I didn’t use exact measurements. if you want it more tangy put more Apple cider, if you want it sweeter add more maple syrup. Pretty simple! =)

if you are using “21 Day Fix” you could break it down like this:
Green Container: Spinach
Red Container: Chicken (optional)
Purple Container: Apples, Cranberries, Raisins
Blue Container: Almonds
Orange Container: Dressing

Top Ten Tuesday: New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish.

This week is new-to-me authors I read in 2014. Well looking at my Good reads list. I found that I have not read THAT many new authors this year. Of the new authors I have read I’ve only read one of their books so it is kind of hard to say they are a “favourite”…..but I will give it my best shot.

Top Ten Eight New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014: (no particular order)

1. R.J. Palacio: Her debut book Wonder was absolutely fabulous. It was middle grade but I know MANY adults who have also loved this book. It was very moving and I recommend EVERYONE check it out! =)

2. Jojo Moyes: I read her book Me Before You  on Valentines day, although not really a “Valentines” read it was such a great book, not your typical chick-lit. I’ve only read this book by her, but have added many of her other books to my TBR.

3. Daphne du Maurier: I just finished reading Rebecca and it has been added to my favourite classics list. I look forward to reading more books by her.

4. Graeme Simsion: I have read both of this author’s fiction books this year The Rosie Project and The Rosie Effect, and loved them both. I actually think I liked The Rosie Effect the best. You can check out my short review of it HERE.

5. Anthony Doerr: I’ve only read All the Light We Cannot See but it one of the best books I have read this year so he had to make my list. I don’t think I know anyone who has read this book and disliked it.

6. Kazuo Ishiguro: Never Let Me Go has been on my TBR for a LONG time, not to mention I owned it, and I FINALLY got around to reading it this year. The story was so captivating! I have added The Remains of the Day to my TBR and hope to get to it this coming year.

7. Neal Shusterman: Someone recommended me Unwind in a challenge group so I decided to pick it up and was NOT disappointed. I haven’t got back into this unique dystopian world yet, but I definitely want to. Looks like it will be a great YA series.

8. V.E Schwab or Victoria Schwab: Vicious is the only hardback book I bought last year AND paid full price for. That is how excited I was to read it and our library didn’t have a copy. It was a great purchase though! I loved the book and look forward to her upcoming book A Darker Shade of Magic. I have never read her YA novels either, but I hear they are also quite good!

Well there you have it! What are some of your top new authors you read this year? I’m always looking for recommendations so please comment below and let me know!! =)

Book Review: If I Stay

If I stayBook: If I Stay
Author: Gayle Forman

What would you do if you had to choose between life and death? After a tragic accident 17 year old Mia is faced with this gut-wrenching decision. She is standing on the sidelines watching her life as an outsider. The decision is up to her. Will she stay or will she go?

I found the premise of this book very unique. Although I don’t believe that it is our decision to choose, I found this piece of fiction captivating. I enjoyed how the chapters went back and forth from past to present, but because of this it was also a little choppy and I found I couldn’t really connect with the characters emotionally (no tears from me). Also found the characters to be a little one dimensional. Since we were learning about them all mostly from the past there was no real character growth. The “love scene” was cheesy and I found myself rolling my eyes, but that could just be me. =p

Now I know that sounds like I probably didn’t like the book, but I actually did. I kept turning the pages faster and faster to find out what happens. I found it enjoyable, but I don’t want to give anything away so I can’t really talk too much about what I really liked about the book. This book really got me thinking though. What would I do if I was in her situation? Definitely brings out some interesting discussion.

Although I didn’t LOVE this book as much as pretty much everyone. I still thought it was a good read. 3.5 stars from me and I’m looking forward to reading the sequel and watching the movie. I will definitely try more books by this author. I was not disappointed.

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I am Looking Forward to in 2015

It is Tuesday! Which means another list! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Top 10 Books Released in 2015 That I’m Excited For:

1.Winter- Lunar Chronicles?? Need I say more?

2. A Darker Shade of Magic– Vicious was one of my favourite books I read this year, so I’m definitely looking forward to what else V.E Schwab writes.

3.Nightingale – Kristin Hannah is one of my favourite authors. I don’t even have to know what the book is about, as long as her name is on it, it automatically goes on to my TBR list!

4. The Heir –  I just marathoned the whole Selection series in October. It was a fun, quick read and I look forward to getting back into that world in 2015.

5. First Frost– I love me some contemporary with a splash of magical realism, and this author is the queen. I read Garden Spells by her a long time ago and look forward to this second book.

6. Sabotaged-Okay so technically this is book #5 in the series, and I have only read the first two…..but I REALLY liked them so I know I will enjoy this one too…once I eventually get to it!

7. The Remedy– In a world BEFORE the program! I’m currently reading this series right now. This is a 0.5 book, but its not a novella, says it should be about 320 pages so I will definitely read this one too!

8. An Uncertain Choice- This author writes great Historical Romances! I’ve read quite a few of her books.

9. A Love Like Ours- Contemporary Romance series, more companion novels than a series though. Same family, centers around different people in each book. I own the first two so you better believe I’m going to want the third book!

10. Lady Maybe- Another author that I see her name on a book and automatically it goes on my TBR. She writes awesome Historical Fiction as well!

Well I think that is it! What books are you most excited for in 2015? Are any of these on your list? Leave a comment I love to chat!

Book Review: The Rosie Effect

rosie effectBook: Rosie Effect
Author: Graeme Simsion
Rating: ★★★★☆

The Rosie Project was one of my favourite books I have read this year, so I had high hopes for the Rosie Effect, and I was NOT disappointed. I actually think I might have liked this one a LITTLE bit more than the first. *gasp* I know crazy right?

This book had many of the same shenanigans that the first book had. Don still described people by their BMI, he still over-analyzed everything, he put his foot in his mouth more than once, and he may or may not have got in trouble with the law….twice! 😉

I think the reason I enjoyed this a little more was because of the plot. Parenting! I for some reason find enjoyment reading about couples going through a pregnancy. They are usually comical and every experience is completely different. If you have read “The Rosie Project” then you can ONLY imagine how Don is going to handle this news. Mr. Over-Prepared, Shows- No-Emotion, Don! Yup! Its interesting and frustrating all at the same time.

Honestly, if I had someone like Don in my life I am pretty sure I would go a little crazy, but he is entertaining to read about. You know who ISN’T entertaining to read about? Gene! I still dislike him just as much as in the first book. Although he did redeem himself a “little” bit in this book, he is still a pretty big jackass!

So there you have it some of my thoughts on the book! I couldn’t give it a full 5 stars because there were some things towards the ending of the book that frustrated me.

If you enjoyed the Rosie Project then I definitely recommend you check this one out too!
